What is Talent Pool?

A talent pool is a maintained database of candidates who are potential future fits — silver-medallists from prior searches, sourced prospects, referrals and past applicants who consented to be retained. It shortens future searches by starting them with warm, pre-qualified candidates.

Most pools decay into stale lists because nothing is recorded about why a candidate was strong. A pool becomes genuinely useful when each record carries structured evaluation evidence — the interview transcript and rubric scores from when they last applied — so a future match is based on assessed capability rather than a résumé from two years ago.

Retention has legal limits. Under GDPR, candidate data may only be kept for a defined period with a lawful basis, and typically requires consent for future-opportunity retention. Any pool needs enforced retention windows and a working erasure path.
