What is AI Voice Interview?

An AI voice interview is a real-time spoken conversation between a candidate and an AI interviewer that asks role-specific competency questions, adapts with follow-ups, and produces a scored, transcribed result. It replaces the recruiter phone screen and can run for every applicant, around the clock.

The mechanics: the platform places a call, the AI conducts a 15–25 minute structured interview with natural turn-taking and interruption handling, the conversation is transcribed in real time, and the transcript is then scored against the role rubric.

It is meaningfully different from one-way video screening. A one-way tool records answers to fixed prompts and still requires a human to watch every submission to extract any value. An AI voice interview probes with follow-up questions and outputs a rubric-mapped score, so a ranked shortlist exists without anyone watching anything.

Fairness requires determinism. TalentHive scores at temperature zero, so the same transcript always produces the same score — a precondition for bias auditing. No candidate is ever auto-rejected on an AI result; a scored interview routes to human review with the recommendation shown for information only.
